PPC is a socially responsible organization and this has been ingrained into the corporate culture for many years. This is the company’s way of giving back to the community that has supported PPC and the brands it represents.
PPC’s social responsibility starts at home, taking care of its employees and their families. The company provides a safe work environment for all employees. PPC also promotes “health and wellness” by facilitating employee participation in events ranging from: in-house various kinds of fitness classes to charitable events like 5k and 10k races.
As a food and household goods distributor, PPC helps numerous entities with in-kind contributions helping sustain the operations of nonprofit institutions helping homeless, elderly, young children and the ill. In addition, PPC donates financial and volunteer resources to NGO’s such as SER de PR, Centros Sor Isolina Ferré, Iniciativa Comunitaria, Enactus, Caribbean Food Bank, among others, which impact disadvantaged communities.
PPC has an active environmental responsibility program, that over the years has included implementing effective education, waste reduction and recycling initiatives. In addition, PPC has made significant capital investments in equipping the warehouse with skylights and lighting controls, reducing energy consumption. The freezer warehouse has been equipped with phase change material also reducing energy consumption. In 2015, solar panels were installed in the Caguas warehouse that are generating one third of its energy needs. The same project is under way in the Guaynabo warehouse facilities.
